![]() You can also choose for yourself whether to use HWE or not. Otherwise, LTS releases get the kernel version of the latest interim release automatically through the Hardware Enablement stack, which is enabled automatically on machines that the installer thinks will benefit. If there's something specific that leads you to believe that you have to compile your own, please share. I'm vaguely aware that they put in some power-monitoring stuff that they then had to take out again because it was all special cases and no general rules. Is an easier implementation soon forthcoming, or am I going to have to get over my trepidation and be the buttercup who sucks it up?Ĭlick to expand.I don't think there's any reason why you'd need to compile unless you wanted to, although I haven't looked at the specifics of AMD's hardware reporting capabilities. I need to finish this project and move on with my life. ![]() But."recompiling" carries psychological baggage which frankly intimidates me. ![]() Moving forward from the LTS version is fine. But I've never recompiled a kernel so I'm kind of. Robust backups exist, and a boot/install flashdrive is ready. It's daunting, I think I can manage it because I'm OK with "set published procedure" and can afford to brick the install without losing my life. Running Ubuntu 20.04.2, and I've seen plenty of complex instruction online (albeit nothing less than a few months old) requiring implementing a newer kernel and (this is the problem) recompiling it on top of that. I built my current box in March, and have not cosmetically finished the build and buttoned it up yet simply because I can't get CPU temp monitoring for stress testing the 5800X and new AIO.
